01Mirror-flat walls and ceilings
Multi-coat skim finishes trowelled to a tolerance most trades reserve for joinery. Walls that hold raking light without a ripple — the quiet foundation of every considered interior.
02Weathered-in, not weather-worn
Monocouche, silicone thin-coat and traditional lime renders, specified to the substrate and the street. Crisp bead lines, honest texture, and a facade that keeps its colour for decades.
03Stone-deep lustre, burnished by hand
Marmorino, lucido and travertino applied in whisper-thin veils, then burnished until the surface reads like cut stone. Each wall is a one-off — layered, tinted and polished in place.
04Precision behind the surface
Metal-stud partitions, acoustic linings and MF ceilings set out with laser accuracy. The invisible work that makes the visible work possible — straight, silent and fire-rated.
05Cornice, coving & restoration
Running cornice in situ the Georgian way, matching listed profiles from a fragment, and casting ceiling roses in our Bermondsey workshop. Heritage detail, made to last another century.

Process
Plaster doesn't forgive haste. Our process runs at the speed of the material — every coat cured, every surface checked under raking light before the next pass.

A site visit, a substrate survey and an honest conversation about what the building needs. We bring sample boards; you keep them.

Protection down, substrates corrected, beads and mesh set with laser lines. Ninety percent of a perfect finish happens before the first coat.

Each coat laid on by hand and left to cure at its own pace. Venetian work goes on in veils — some walls take six passes.

Polished plasters are burnished with steel and stone, then waxed or sealed to spec — matte, satin or a wet-look depth.

In their words
The walls are the artwork. Guests run their hands along them without thinking — I've stopped hanging pictures.
Half a millimetre over a six-metre run. We measured because we didn't believe it. Mace are now written into our specs by name.
They ran a new cornice in situ to match an 1860s profile from a broken fragment. English Heritage signed it off first visit.
On a fourteen-week programme they were the only trade that never slipped a day. Tidy, quiet, exact.
The tadelakt bathroom is the reason the flat sold in a weekend. Every viewing ended in that room.
The craft
Mace began in 2003 with one van, two hawks and a belief that plastering had quietly become a race to the bottom. We went the other way — fewer jobs, slower coats, and finishes you notice with your fingertips before your eyes.
Twenty-two years on, we're a team of nine: master plasterers, two apprentices we're teaching the long way, and a workshop in Bermondsey where we run cornice and cast roses like it's still 1860. Architects spec us by name; most clients arrive because a friend made them touch a wall.
